Screenwriter Andrew Davies – who also penned P&P – gives us a satisfying, romantic original ending that would obtain Mrs. Gaskell proud. I loved every moment of this adaptation! The UK has already aired all 4 episodes so the UK has released all 4 episodes on DVD. The US broadcasters (PBS) have their enjoy broadcast schedule and therefore the DVD Sets must follow suit. The other 2 episodes (Third Girl & Appointment with Death) will be out on DVD AFTER they air, which is TBD. No one is trying to capture us fans; let’s objective be patient.

These 90 dinky movies deserve multiple viewings as the mysteries are intricate and you could miss a clue if you turn your head. The stories, based on the pudgy length novels MRS MCGINTY’S Monotonous and CAT AMONG THE PIGEONS, are more flushed out than the older 60 slight episodes. One felt like clues were left out of those shorter episodes that prevented the viewer from solving the execute with Poirot. But here, all of the clues are there for you the viewer to remove up on, but are they what they seem?
I do miss the regular cast of characters in the veteran 60 slight series, Inspector Japp, Captain hastings & Miss Lemon are sadly missing from the 90 runt “Movie” versions of Poirot. While the production values are trustworthy, the amazing ‘Art Deco’ style of the earlier shows is missing. I do wish they had kept that style going. ‘Art Deco’ buildings & objects do appear in these movies, but the style is gone from the production.
The bottom line is that I do like the more flushed out stories, but I miss some of the elements from the earlier productions. Tranquil they are a ‘MUST-BUY”.
While I wish PBS would air all 4 current Poirot Movies this year (I don’t know if it is due to budget cuts or not), it is nice to obtain to glimpse at least two of the current productions and stare forward to two more later on. PBS is a co-producer of the series & they resolve what Acorn Media can release in the U.S..
I have an early review copy & can say that the anamorphic 16:9 widescreen represent has some grain to it (it looked the same on the PBS-Hi Defenition broadcast) . The sub-titles can support with odd British words. Bonus material is mostly dinky to the 47 dinky “Shipshape Sleuths” special on disc #3. Discs 1 & 2 have very basic detached frame biographies & filmographies. Quite honestly, the “Shapely Sleuths” special could have easily fit on a second layer of either disc 1 or 2, but it looks better to beget it a 3-disc plot. At least they are ‘slim cases’ and do not acquire up too noteworthy spot for the extra disc.

I am the mother of an 18-month-old daughter who is an absolute Elmo nut! We saw this movie in the theater and it was the first time she has sat serene for more than five minutes since she was a very petite baby. She hardly even blinked during the entire 73 minutes of the movie. Valid movie and I would recommend it to all parents of children who cherish Elmo.
I wasn’t determined how my daughter would be in a theater (she’s 2 1/2 & this was our first time), but I needn’t have panicked. She was captivated! It was cute & intriguing for me; but she loved it. Burt & Ernie kept the understanding of falling into Grouchland from being too scary, and the tunes were appealing. I highly recommend for all pre-schoolers!

The casting was well done with Imelda Stauton (who starred in Vera Drake) being a perfect choice for as Mrs. Durrell. Spiro and Theo appear exactly as I would narrate them as are Larry’s impossible friends. Gerald is well cast and his curiosity in nature is brought to the film but there is no time to deal with the animals individually. We can discover that Gerald has an owl but we don’t obtain any details about him. The scene with the scorpions is in the film and nicely brought off and the Rose-Beetle Man is perfectly done. The actor’s have done a powerful job in capturing the personalities of the Durrell family and the magical beauty of Corfu is nicely conveyed as Gerald investigates the island with his dog Roger.
There are so many funny episodes for the writers to resolve from that I am definite some viewers will be somewhat dismayed that their approved was not purchase. The magpies have their five minutes in the film but their antics are not as clearly drawn as they are in the book. They do raid Larry’s room but we do not learn about how Larry was trying to support them out, and we do not score to look them calling after Spiro as he sets out on yet another errand.

So, I found this version of “My Family and Other Animals” to be a delight but I wish it was longer. I could not support but recalling episodes that were not included or crop short. I do recommend the film as it captures the essence of Gerald Durrell’s book; it is unprejudiced a gash of the book but a fairly noble helping.
Gerald Durrell grew up to be a celebrated naturalist, animal-collector and conservationist. Over his lifetime he wrote thirty-seven books, went on dozens of animal-collecting trips and presented numerous television shows including The Amateur Naturalist and Ourselves and Other Animals. For those who have read Durrell’s books or at least know of him, the latest Masterpiece Theater film (currently screening on PBS) of his myth My Family and Other Animals, will be a genuine treat.
Quirky, laughable and also stunning to spy, the film stars Imelda Staunton as Gerald’s mother and the hunky Matthew Goode as Larry, his older brother, and most of the action takes spot in the picaresque island of Corfu. The Durrell family is indeed eccentric. The teenage daughter modern faced and blond haired Margo (Tamzin Merchant) thinks of nothing but boys, while the youngest 12-year-old Gerald (Eugene Simon) constantly brings home live animals to ogle in cages in his room, powerful to the chagrin of Larry and the rest of the family – the scene where a couple of magpies acquire over Larry’s bedroom is absolutely precious. The Durrell family seems unprejudiced inform to fair let it all happen and though many will wish that more of the family’s mishaps had made it into the film, what is incorporated is smooth an affectionate and laughable care for. I have to be different from most of the other reviewers and give this movie a plump 5 stars. It is one of my favorites. As a extinct hookup man, crew chief, flight engineer, and door gunner, I have seen exactly the type of character assortment and wacky actions that this film portrays. There is always one that is troubled of dying. There is always AT LEAST one hung over person, usually with a barf bag within approach. There is always the one that tries to slump herd on the rest and support them paying attention to their job. There is always one glory hound that feels he must score a shot at everybody’s job so he has bragging rights when he gets home. So this status of characters is totally credible and all were played with fabulous skill. I admire them all, even the jerk.
As for historical accuracy, it is not moral. They based the chronicle on the Memphis Belle, but incorporated all the incidents and accidents that happened to the flying fortresses. If it didn’t happen to the Belle, her crew witnessed it. In my thought, the movie is made better for this. It also serves to educate people about the realities of WWII bomber flights. I’m all for that. The public needs to be made aware that these men went through a hell that most cannot inaugurate to imagine. Thus, this movie performs a distinguished function.
As for the entertainment value … it is top of the line. You will feel the injure and dodge the shrapnel! The anti-aircraft rounds invent me glean in mercurial motion! I especially like the share about the monkey harness and can identify fully with it. The pilot always had to force me to achieve mine on, and like the guy in this movie, it saved my bacon once. There’s objective no comparison to flapping in the stride beneath an aircraft while other crewmembers try to haul you aid aboard. (But you’ll never have to be told to assign on your monkey harness again!) Thus, I identify and empathize with his site … literally!

I watched this vast movie with wonder at all the restored vintage B-17 bombers traditional in the filming. When one watches as they buy off and land with such hazardous imprecision, it’s noteworthy to realize how far we’ve reach technologically since those risky days of daylight bombing by the Americans (the Brits went at night) and the murderous losses over German skies. All of this as depicted was before we developed the P-51 with its remarkable longer range and its ability to escort the bombers to the target location to fend off Luftwaffe fighters who shot down so many bombers in 1942, 1943, and 1944.
This is a astounding movie, very lawful, authentic, and quite titillating. Starring Matthew Modine as the Pilot of the fabled “Memphis Belle”, the first bomber crew to finish its mission tour and be returned to the states (to sell war bonds, among other things), is retells the astonishing record of how thousands of kids as depicted here went off to England to soar thousands and thousands of planes through the hazardous skies of Europe in a sustained trouble to bomb the Third Reich into submission. Off they went, seeking the industrial and urban targets, quick-witted elephantine well they might as well have had `bullseyes’ painted on their fuselages. The costs of flying the missions in terms of lost people and planes were almost overwhelming to the Allies.
The sage is told in all its fullness, and one comes to discover unprejudiced how many of these bold kids leaving the air field would never arrive abet, as the daily losses to German fighters, flak and mishap were horrible. Yet they went up again the next day and the next and the next, in a pleasing expose of strange courage, tenacity, and maturity beyond their tender years. This is a poignant and well-told, scripted and acted anecdote brilliantly photographed on place over the hills and dales of bonny olde England, where it all unfolded in its substantial yet unpleasant magnificence fifty some years ago. ‘Surf’s Up’ is one of the best though-provoking films I have ever seen or at least in the CGI era of animation. The Mockumentary style and fantastic animation sustain the sage current, droll and fantastic to peep at! Even if your not a fan of challenging films, this one may change your mind. The film also has a hip and appropriate soundtrack. The DVD transfer is grand and this is a must peruse movie!…..Cowabunga!
When trailers for this movie were being shown in theaters, I groaned and felt that this would be a film riding on the success of the astonishing Gratified Feet film. I was positive that it wouldn’t stand on it’s fill, that it had no soul to it, it was impartial going to be fluff.

And I was proven noxious, and I’m satisfied for that. Surf’s Up really makes itself stand on it’s have, it truly is an individual in the penguin movie crowd. It doesn’t NEED to prance on Joyful Feet’s coattails, it creates its believe pretty world and really stays strong throughout the (sadly short) film.
I was struck with how lovely the scenery was, and how alive every character was. It’s completely amazing how dependable and believable everyone is, and that is thanks to the documentary style, without a doubt. The documentary style is a accurate asset to this film’s heart and soul. You’re not unbiased watching events unfold, you feel like this actually happened, the filming, the station, the Pen Gu contest, that they’re living and breathing. It’s really impressive.

I watched Surf’s Up three times while it was in the theaters, and I can’t wait to gain the DVD. Don’t listen to yourself if you mediate it’s fair another penguin movie, it isn’t.
